Re: Death Toll
Numba9 asked how many people were killed in the Bible. I remember that this topic appeared at the SAB Board, and that Truncated has done the calculation.
Mike Rosoft "[The Bible] is full of interest. It has noble poetry in it; and some clever fables; and some blood-drenched history; and some good morals; and a wealth of obscenity; and upwards of a thousand lies." As far as I could gather, the calculations did not include the people klled in the Flood, as this was not given. But since we are blessed on the board with a number of Creation scientists arguing their case in the appropraite topics, they must surely have calculated the size of the human population at the Flood in their engaging work, and would no doubt be happy to present their conclusions?

I'd be satisfied with numbers and names. You can leave out the flood victims, residents of Sodom & Gomorrah, firstborn of Egypt, etc. All those slaughters where no numbers are given can be added to the list as an asterisk.
Such a list would have unnamed victims, however, like the stick-picker stoned to death in Numbers 15. |

the discussion and counting is athttp://pub5.ezboard.com/fsabdiscussionboardcrueltiesandviolence.
where Truncated summed it up, with a final number of: >God-ordered, with the totals of 1,862,265! >God-personally followed a bit after with 371,186. In addition I have been searching creationist sites on the net looking for what they presumed the antediluvian population to be. See the topic in Evolution/creation for some of those numbers. It is a good thing the Flood never happened.... |

Here’s a small portion of the compilation that I get from Ruth Green’s book, “The Born Again Skeptic’s Guide to the Bible”, with the biblical god approving, committing, or ordering the killings. Don Morgan's has a much more comprehensive list, that you can link up to by going up to the first header post on this thread and linking on to "Numba9". 3,000 Israelites massacred by their Levite tribe. They were worshipping a golden calf. (Exodus 32.) 250 Levite princes. They challenged the leadership of Moses. God would have killed more, but Moses intervenes and is able to have Geehovah come to his freakin‘ senses on this occasion. (Numbers 16) 14,700 Jews in a plague. Because they rebelled against Moses after the killing of the 250 princes. (Numbers 16) 24,000 Israelites. They co-habited with Moabite women, and also worshipped Baal. Jehovah was a jealous god, ya know. (Numbers 25) A few from David: 200 Philistines killed by David because he needed their foreskins so he could purchase Saul’s wife. ( I Samuel 18:27) 70,000 murdered because God sends a great pestilence. David chose it as punishment for taking a census. (II Sam 24:15) 40,000 horsemen of the Syrians killed by David. (II Sam 10:18) The Moabites and 22,000 Syrians killed by David. (II Sam 8) 10,000 Moabites killed. 600 Philistines slain with an ox goad by Shamgar. (Judges 3) Not to be outdone, Samson was pretty good with the jawbone of an ass, himself. He slew 1,000 Philistines. “The spirit of the Lord was upon him” then, as well as when 3,000 Philistines perished when Samson asked God for his strength back. And punishment for guessing a riddle correctly the spirit of the Lord was also upon him again when he killed 30 young Philistines. So watch it when there are riddles involved, it could mean a death sentence. Guess it wrong though, and he‘ll probably kill you too, so might as well be a smart-alec. ( Judges 15 and 16th chapters. Also Judges 14:19) 50,070 struck dead by God when others took a peek inside the Ark of the Covenant where the stone tablets of the 10 Commandments lay. (I Sam 6:19) 100,000 Syrian footmen slaughtered in one day by the children of Israel. A wall falls on the 27,000 that are left. God was offended when the Syrians said Lord is God of the hills, but not the valleys. Those bastards had the nerve, didn’t they?! (I Kings 20:28-30) 100 Moabite troops consumed by fire which Elijah called down from heaven because they question whether or not he is a man of God. Who the hell were they to question Elijah? (II Kings 1) 42 children eaten by two bears because they were making fun of Elisha’s bald head, so he curses them in God’s name. If Elisha was that sensitive about his bald head wouldn’t it have been easier for Elisha to just ask god for another head full of hair instead of taking this route? But hey, that‘s just me. (II Kings 2:23-24) 70 children of King Ahab with their heads put in baskets (II Kings 9 and 10th chapters) 120,000 Judeans massacred by King Pekah of Israel because they forsaken the Lord. (II Chron 28) 75,000 Persians killed in Ester 9:16 And the Lord defends Jerusalem by sending an angel (card carrying halo member) who was able to kill 185,000 Assyrians, single-handedly. (II Kings 19:35) 500,000 men of Israel (II Chron 13) Does this biblical god like anyone? John [ January 12, 2002: Message edited by: John the Atheist ]
|

Thanks for trying, Prometevsberg. Had trouble with that latest link too, but don't go to any special trouble.
