What about hermaphrodites(sp?) and Christianity?
I just read a she-male thread in RR and it got me wondering. According to Christians and the Bible, homosexuality is a sin. So... what happens to people who are born with both sexual organs? Should they just be stoned at birth, I mean, since there are both sexual organs, whatever sex they decide to be intimate with they will be commiting some form of homosexuality. Hmmm....
So, what does a Christian do? Is this the only time that bi/homosexuality may be condoned? |

Well since they were born that way then it must be part of God's Plan™ so that means they have some kind of meaning and are meant to go one way or the other or something and not like normal people because normal people in god's-plan-that-doesn't-negate-free-will are supposed to be straight see? It all makes sense when you put it in terms of God's Plan™.

Well, you see we live in a Fallen World and God's Plan doesn't work as well as it used to--so we have things like hermaphrodites and carnivores. It's a sick, sick world.

Of course they would be stoned - along with everything else they didn't understand, feared, and that wasn't mentioned in the bible. :boohoo: :banghead:

Amazing, how a man and a woman eating a fruit spoils God's entire plan. Ain't such a plan really a house of cards...

No stoning amoebas please. Or my computer, for that matter. At least not while I'm using it.

Tibac, you're a hoot!
But seriously, are those that are born this way supposed to live a life of celibacy, or are they allowed to have sexual partners? It seems that either this is nature's loophole to support homosexuality, or these poor people are doomed to live a sexless life. I cannot imagine living such a life as a fundy. The guilt must be horrible. |

This may not be relevant but remember in the movie "Prophecy" one of the fallen angels was a hermaphrodite.
So doesn't that mean that hermaphrodites are higher on the "God" scale than single sexed humans? How do you feel about the parents of a hermaphrodite choosing the sex of their child and getting them snipped during infancy? Myself, unless there is a life-threatening situation, I'm against it. Allowing the kid to choose their own way, while offering them acceptance and support is the best way. |

As for my own personal stance on the issue, I can't say I've really given it much thought! I certainly think hermaphrodites pose a problem for those who want to stick to an entirely traditionalist view of sexuality, because the traditionalist view tends to view sexuality in terms of black and white - either you're a man or a woman. But what does that mean? Are genders entirely reduceable (is that a word?) to one's anatomy? What about transgendered people? What about men who feel like they're women trapped in a man's body or vice versa? Basically, the traditional fundamentalist view of "proper" sexuality as straightforward, heterosexual sex, seems to me to be deeply flawed, even from a Christian perspective. |
