The terrorist thing still stresses me out more than the U.S. theocracy thing, partly because the undeniable reality of the terrorist threat has given the authoritarians and theocrats more ammo than they'd otherwise have. Americans unfortunately seem much more inclined than in the past to surrender liberty to people who promise security in return. Ironically, the best way to increase our security is to strengthen liberty and justice in our own country and to press for liberty and justice EVERYWHERE, among both our enemies AND our allies.
