Careful what you wish for! In Valhalla you will fight with other warriors all day, every day. In the evening your scattered body parts will reform so you can all feast together. This goes on until the last battle against the giants, which the giants are predicted to win.

Also, Odin has a knack of "recruiting" souls for Valhalla by finding a worthy warrior, and then tricking him into getting killed in battle.

The Muslims have a hell too. They say the Christians will all burn in hell because they believe that Jesus was God, and it is an unpardonable sin to associate anything with God.

If I remember correctly, the Christians say that the Muslims will all burn in hell because they rejected Jeebus as their personal LordandSavior.

That sounds pretty mutually exclusive to me.

Boy, I hope there aren't too many "hells"; I've only got one soul to pass around! Maybe we can choose?

Though if you ever get the chance, do some reading on the above-mentioned Norse Heathenism (Asatru)! It's a very interesting religion; in some ways it's very archaic while in others quite 'advanced'.

Talking about Hells, the Hindu insight on Hell and Suffering is worth mentioning.

Hinduism like Marduck had exclaimed do have Hells.. a number of them. But they are not meant to 'punish' souls as such, but the belief is more sublime. The mundane existence as living beings is itself a suffering: We are restricted in freedom while our true self is to be free from all laws of nature and physics.

For example, In Hinduism we believe that you will suffer much more when you find that your only child had be kidnapped than somebody torturing you with cigarette butts. Suffering in its two manifestations: Physical and Psychological are not the one and the same.

Anxiety is more painful than an sword-duel.. atleast in a duel you know the enemy and you know the fate that awaits you if you fail. Its simple.. on the other hand psychological suffering is more difficult to bear.

THerefore, Hindu Hell is not necessarily fire and brimstone like Abrahamic Hells, but its a state of mind while in torture: The author of the Torture being oneself. God is not a Judge. Its yourself, the doer who decides how you want to live.

Hell exists only because you have created it for yourself in order to purge your negative Karmas you yourself had earned. No body forces you to go to Hell... you, with all your own resolution make your past, present and future. Its not frightening too.. Once you know that Hell is just a state of mind and that it cannot affect your soul, this knowledge will free you from Hell automatically. To put in simple ways: You have a nightmare one night.. you are chased by a few ruffians and they rain blows on your head and in the nightmare you feel pain and fear.. you suffer .. but on awakeing you find that it had been a nightmare and nothing else. .. Hell is also similiar. and its not for ever too...

To conclude: the Hindu Hell is what we ourselves make our future to be. A place to work out the negative karmas earned.

So I'm talking about religions that would send generous and moral Christians to some kind of hell, simply because they had the wrong belief system.

Thanks.</strong>
It certainly is true that the wrong belief system lands you in hell but that is not the same is saying that it sends you to hell. Having said this, it is true that only the wrong belief system will send send you to hell.

In the end we send ourself to hell because if we do it right we will be given the key to the kingdom. If we don't get the key we will know that we have done it wrong when we die.

Jaganmohan, hell can be a state of mind. But in scriptures and popular belief hell was very much a real place where you underwent actual suffering.

But a state of mind is the only place were actual suffering can be endured or Paul could not have been singing in prison.
