Help in studying antiquarian artifacts and texts
To the best of anyone's knowledge, is their a host of resources on learning more about antiquarian artifacts, documents texts, etc(e.g Elba tablets, Nag Hammadi scrolls, texts.etc) I've assumed an interest in learning about the oldest artifacts that science has discovered. My primary issue would be things that would record history such as the items I mentioned...Old items such as skulls would fall in the latter of my interests however feel free to include any and all information suggested.

Under "Recommended Reading" there are some really good books on Biblical Archaeology--John CH Laughlin especially--which is a good start.
Then . . . for the texts . . . see if you can find Fortress Presses Guides to Biblical Scholarship--they have some really good basics on the main textual witnesses plus some REALLY great introductions to textual criticism--how people argue for one reading in a witness against another. Also, Friedman's Who Wrote the Bible? is a great introduction to the multiple authorship in the OT. Enjoy! --J.D. |
