I'am relatively new here but wouldnt if Exodus happened in even a vaguely biblical way mean that there would be more than rather dry religious documents. Where is the epic poetry?, where is the folk memory of it?, where are the semi-fictional versions such as the Aneoid for the works of Homer?. Instead it seems to me that this makes it very unlikely to have ever happened, i mean whouldnt accounts of this be told in various ways throughout the Israelites and other offshoots of them for millenia to come?, it is not the sort of thing that can be erased from memory....

It is not a dry religious document but it is an epic poem and a classic one at that.

Epics like the Iliad may well have had some basis in real history, but nobody seriously suggests that Achilles, Hector or Agamemnon were real historical characters doing as they are described in the song, nor that the Trojan Horse ever was really built.

Maybe that is a bad example but the fact is that when a whole nation comes into being as the Judeo-Christian-Islamic tradition dictates then that is going to leave scars. Apparently we are supposed to believe that out of all of those thousands or millions of people only one single account remains, in a form that is written down in a largely illiterate society?. There has to be more than that if that is true, even over hundreds of years it would still be remembered in different ways, i mean if all of the events of Exodus were in any way true would they really be forgotten in everything but an Offical Version? and would no one in the Jewish community be interested in preserving other accounts?

"and would no one in the Jewish community be interested in preserving other accounts?"

Not to mention all the other cultures in the area at the time as well.
