How about Batman and Robin, Superman IV and Battlefield Earth ? (I haven't actually seen the last two but they sure sound like stinkers!).

Likewise, I wanted to sue the makers of Batman Forever for false advertising. It only seemed like forever.

I'm female...these "sistahs are powerful" movies, I just don't get, like Fried Green Tomatoes, and I didn't even bother with Ya Ya Sisterhood. I guess a bunch of women who have been sorority sisters since the Virgin Mary was a pup get together and scream and act crazy to prove their friendship.....??????
Tried to watch Terms of Endearment and couldn't.....but then I don't understand women with cats either......or cats for that matter. The Turning Point is another stinker of a friendship movie -- anne bancroft and shirley maclaine bitch fighting, making up, and bancroft's daughter is a ballerina -- boring awful draggy ballet sequences. Only good thing about it is Baryshnikov's great bod. But then I'm not into ballet except for the boywatching aspect. I don't like sci fi or horror anyway. My kid made me watch Scarface on DVD last nite and it was much better than I expected it to be. Even tho they were all sleazeballs with heavy artillery ventilating each other all the time. |

Thin Red Line -
Not only was it bad, it was long. Star Trek 5- Star Trek NG - Insurrection- This coming from a big Trek fan. Muholland Drive- I think this movie was WELL made; however it was so depressing - I wish I could just forget I ever saw it. Mortal Combat II A definite fatality. Vercingetorix (starring Christopher Lambert) The poor Gaul must be spinning in his grave from this travesty. |

Another controversial one with a large following: The Shawshank Redemption. So self-important it makes me vomit.
LOL. So fucking dead on right. I hate that movie. A heap of cliches. But it used to be #1 at the Internet Movie Database Top 250 for the longest time.... Vorkosigan |

The Avengers. Sean Connery, Uma Thurman, Ralph Fiennes. Emma Peel. Mrs. Peel, pardon me. Good cast and characters. How could they start with something so great and screw it up so royally?
There must be as many different definitions of "worst movie" as there are of "atheist." I mean it as "most disappointing" or "biggest letdown." So while Star Wars: Phantom Menace would probably make my list of worst movies, it was also one of my favorites (adj. - enjoyed the experience) of 1999. If worst is to mean poor acting, directing, writing, ... then I would have named a different movie. Some of you seem to use worst to mean "movies I disliked that most people liked." Some of your choices are surprising. My favorite movie (not necessarily what I would consider the best movie) is up there, among with others I thought were both good and enjoyable. Annette Bening chewed the scenery like a demented beaver; no one talked in any way like people talk in the real world; and the big secret was -- wait for it -- the homophobe has secret gay tendencies! In a year with Three Kings, Being John Malkovich, and Dogma, that American Beauty won best picture is the surest sign yet that the Academy Awards are completely meaningless. Rob aka Mediancat |
