Why does anyone think this sort of thing is helpful?

Newdow is not a particularly skillful rhetorician. I would prefer to see a more skillful representative for atheism and preferably a dialogue rather than a debate. It's a rare occasion that anyone changes sides because of these debates and all it seems to do is pit one side agianst another. These debates dismiss any ways in which people are more alike than different.
