Post A little question for Ed

In the absence of a sexual partner, why is God male?

Come on TB, that's obvious. Lock youself in a dark soundless cupboard and imagine you were god before he had decided to create anything, all alone in a dark, soundless, formless, non-space, in the never starting/ending beginingness before time began. I bet after just a few minutes you end having a sly wank to relieve the boredom too.

I don't think that's a very good answer. A goddess finding herself in a dark soundless cupboard in a dark, soundless, formless, non-space, in the never starting/ending beginingness before time began would surely have had the wit to make a vibrator?

There is, in fact, a sensible answer to this little question for Ed, and I have to say I am disappointed that he hasn't provided it.
The word "Israel" is now known to mean "Fighter for El," and El was a Canaanite god. Furthermore, the most common religious objects found in excavations throughout Israel are small female figures, and two stones dating from the eighth century BC have been found with Hebrew inscriptions referring to Yahweh and his consort Ashera.
The God of the OT has origins in this self same god of the Canaanites: he was male because he had a female partner

No, the scriptures plainly teach that God is neither male nor female, ie he is a non-physical being. He does prefer to be referred to as the male gender, why? We dont know. As far as the ashera, the 8th cent. in Israel was a time when idolatry made major inroads into the jews' religious practices. This widespread idolatry is recorded in the bible so these archaeological findings confirm the accuracy of the scriptures.

Uh,huh. Then how come the Bible sez that we were created in God's image? Are we mere flotsom in the wind, suffering from a collective delusion?

Edited to politly ask, what archological findings support the scriptures? What does idolitry have to do with the gender of God?

I, not being a Bible expert, am curious.
