Joshua,

You did the right thing. Although you disagree with something, you support its right to exist. That is what makes you a good man. Those fundamentalist Baptists are so caught up in denying people their rights that they wont see that they've lost theirs till it's too late.

I support your rights, you support mine. Sounds like the golden rule to me.

And what is up with this wacko.
Quote:
<strong>Rev. Joshua: "I have just as much right to the baptist identity as you or any other baptist minister here."

Scott J: "Well... no you don't. When you deny the very beliefs that identify one as a Baptist, you no longer have a legitimate right to claim the title.

Unfortunately, there is no way to stop those who are destroying the testimony of our beliefs from continuing to abuse the name 'Baptist.'"</strong>
Last time I checked, homosexuality and adult bookstores were not even mentioned in the Baptist Creed (or whatever it is called). Sounds like revisionist history to me.

Does Helen (not HelenSL) compare everything she doesn't like to slavery? I guess she forgot why the SBC exists in the first place.

I guess it really is true, Baptists are spliters and quitters.

Maybe if you had a degree from an unaccredited instition like most of them, they would consider you an authority. Instead you had to get a M.Div from that crappy school, Mercer.

Oh yeah, did you hear that MOO3 has been delayed again. That sux.

~~RvFvS~~
P.S. Would you mind refreshing us infidels on central baptist doctrine?

Edited for HelenSL's benefit.

Thought I might get more support here than on the BB.

Could you have gotten less?

I doubt it!

Rev. Joshua, you black sheep, you.

Funny coincidence, but I was just reading this...

Quote:
...I recall reading a book about one of the martyred Elizabethan reclusant priests. The author wrote, 'He was accused of lying, stealing and even immorality.' I noted the quaint statement because although by immorality he meant sex as many people do, I had always thought that lying and stealing, no less, constituted immorality.
--------------- "A Far Cry From Kensington" by Muriel Spark

Sex is really a hot topic with the conservative crowd, isn't it? One would think there was no violence, crime, or poverty to get worked up over, just indiscriminate shagging, left and right, in the streets, blocking traffic and even public parking.

It pains my feminist soul to say this, but Barnabas could really do with a lap dance. (Oh, that's right, they don't like feminists, either.)

I applaud both your reasoning and your actions. Personally, I'd take their response as a compliment.

Yay Revvy!!!

(Is that enough support?)

Dog knows that for every person with the (metaphorical) balls to publicly take a stand on a significant issue and do something good for the world there are hundreds who take it upon themselves to muster the unfathomable courage required to complain anonymously from the comfort of their homes about "politeness" and "decency".
