Darwin, Design, and Democracy III Symposium in Kansas City
I plan on attending this symposium:
<a href="http://www.intelligentdesignnetwork.org/june_symposim.htm" target="_blank">http://www.intelligentdesignnetwork.org/june_symposim.htm</a> I know a few other ID critics will be attending too. I did notice the list of of pro-evolution people on the panel, frankly, I never heard of any of them. They will be going up against Behe, Wells, etc. Here is the panel. <a href="http://www.intelligentdesignnetwork.org/DDDIIIPanel.htm" target="_blank">http://www.intelligentdesignnetwork.org/DDDIIIPanel.htm</a> Is the pro-evolution group up to snuff, or is this going to be the equivalent of the Washington Senators going up against the Harlem Globetrotters? Cheers, KC |

From what I hear, Denis Lamoureux is really good. Never heard of the others, though. Notice how none of the others are biologists? Of course, the whole theme of DDD3 is teaching ID in schools -- screw the science.

The evolutionists have impressive credentials on paper. You'll have to tell us how skilled they are in debate.
The panel is heavy with lawyers. And I am intrigued by the moderator,John C. (Woody) Cozad, J.D.: Quote:

None of the names on the evolution side ring bells for me. Kenneth Miller would be an appropriate person to have Christian and somebody who understand evolution.
As an audience member, be prepared to question. Are they all old earth creationists? If not, ask some questions on how old the earth/universe is, make sure you make it clear you want all the "ID"(iot) panelists to answer. It would be interesting to see them get in a fight over the age of the earth. I also wonder how you teach science without assuming naturalism. The only alternative I see is a diety that acts in such a way as to be completely indistinguishable from a universe without a diety - in which case, why have the extra step? Simian |

One other item: ask the ID side if humans and chimps have a common ancestor. Behe will say yes (unless he decides to withhold his viewpoint), not sure about the others. Bare minimum, this will alienate the "I ain't relatimicated to no monkey!!!" crowd.

Wh are they useing lawyers on their panel? Couldn't they get any biologists? Or scientists? LOL!
Are of em from the DI? If so, I doubt there will be much disagreement on the age of the earth. Someone like Morris, Gish, Ham, Sarfari etc. wouldn't associate themselves with "comprimisers.". I wonder when these idiots will realize that science isn't a democrocy to be decided by public opinion? "I've said it before and I'll say it again. Democracy simply doesn't work" Kent Brockman, The Simpsons. |

If any readers here attend the University of Alberta, there is a science and religion humanities course he teaches that involves creation vs. evolution. At the end of the course, he invites 2 guest speakers: one supporting evolution and the other creation. This was quite a while back though, so I'm not sure if the course was discontinued.
