Fair treatment by a columnist!
I'm posting a link to an editorial in my local paper, the Daily Herald of suburban Chicago. I've already sent Mr. Constable an email thanking him for fair treatment of atheists. What do you all think of this article? Suzanne

A very nice read... actually talks to some intelligent atheists instead of quoting deliberately inflamatory statements from a dead blowhard.
All told, I'm not much for giving feedback for papers I don't regularly read... words of encouragement from little ol' me might be comforting, but not if his editor takes him behind the shed for what subscribers or advertisers had to say. |

Very Nice
What a nice article.
Since I do live the suburbs of Chicago, I sent him a brief thank-you note via e-mail. It's so nice to have atheist activities covered at all, let alone kindly. I told him that, too. Thanks for letting us know about this article. I may have to go buy that paper and keep the article. By the way - I attended this convention on Saturday afternoon, and it was small but fun and well-organized. |

I was sorry to miss the convention. I have a broken foot and wasn't sure how my hobbling would hinder. I saved the convention editorial, since it was wonderful to see something positive in the paper! I'm sure in future weeks we'll be reading letters to the editor suggesting atheists leave the country, instead of attending conventions. Suzanne

Yes, a very nice read, indeed! Too bad more of the press can't be more objective in their reporting.
How was the article received? I mean, were there many angry letters to the editor about it? I know there would be down in the Bible Belt (where I was stationed for about 7 years)! |

I did an archive search at the Herald website from the day after the article ran until today, and there were no matches for my searches. I used the Columnist's name and "atheist" as words to search for, and not a single match. Is it possible that not a single person wrote a letter to the editor to complain? Ya know, the sun appears in the east enough days in a row, you start to rely on it. What does it mean that no complaint letters were printed about a column featuring a positive portrayal of atheists? |

I'm going to keep an eye out for letters, too. Maybe they've all decided to accept us and we won't see any complaints! (Wishful thinking here...) Suzanne

Nice Read
That's a nice read. It's good to see Atheism get fair treatment from the press, unfortunately it rarely does.
