looking for math miracle help
Hello everybody. I have begun to investigate a supposed miracle of the number 19 in the Quran. Many of you may have heard of this supposed miracle. While there is a lot of manipulation going on and there are some really silly numbers, I am confused by some of the things I am seeing, as to how they can be the products of chance. I realize that I am ignorant of statistics and probabilities, so that is probably the main problem. I have been looking for somebody to help out a lot, do some calculations and work etc. (stuff that I can't do). But so far there have been no takers. Part of the reason for this is probably that there is really no incentive for many people to take the time to investigate this kind of thing. So, I have decided to offer to pay somebody to tutor me in this area. They would do a bit of research with me, perform some calculations (maybe even a lot of calculations). When would start out I don't know, but I wanted to know if there would be anybody here who is knowleadgable about statistics and probabilities (preferrable with a college/university education) who would be willing to take up such a job when I choose to go ahead with it.
Thanks, Kevin |

Do you have a more specific question? Or do you want a basic course in statistics?
I think the work on the "miracle of 19" has probably been done for you. It appears that the "miracle" is accomplished by massaging the data and leaving out parts of the Qu'ran (which the 19'ers claim must have been later forgeries!) A quick google search found this: http://www.geocities.com/kuranceviri.../nineteen.html http://answering-islam.org.uk/Religions/Numerics/ http://rationalthinking.humanists.net/miracle_of_19.htm http://www.bilalphilips.com/books/quran01a.htm http://www.mtrustonline.com/internet2222003.htm http://www.expage.com/morequraniclinks also Proof of My Divinity |

Good question
I guess I am looking for some tutoring with statistics, but I want to know stuff relevant to this. I know that there have been some refutations out there, and it is good stuff. I just want to go more in depth. Unlike with the Bible Code there isn't piles and piles of stuff out there. So a combination of stuff.

What's so special about 19? I thought that 42 was the Answer to the Ultimate Question.
