Pope accepts Mother Teresa "Miracle"
Looks like our buddy John Paul has decided that Mother Teresa is responsible for the "miraculous" cure of an Indian woman. If I'm not mistaken, this is the incident where the woman's husband has come clean and said that his wife received professional treatment for her medical condition, and that is what made her better. Did JP just completely ignore the facts of the case here? Pretty damn annoying if you ask me.

JP *WANTS* to make (sic) MOther Theresa a saint! And it's pretty obv. to the meanest onlooker that he *INTENDS* to accomplish that purpose whatever that costs!
Hence, anyone who takes official RC saintmaking ="canonization", seriously, deserves to have to eat it..... Gemma want to tell us how many lovingly -married couples have been canonized in the last 2000 yrs? And don't bother citing Mary & Joseph, those representative VIRGIN spice. Sure this is off the thread, & I apologise. I also add that the Roman catholic *sect, sect, sect* has alwiz been Manichaean and hated the human Body and human sexuality. Look at that damned myth of the virgin "Mother" who gave birth to the unfathered, REALLY unfathered, kid. STINK! |

John Paul II has canonized more saints than all other popes combined, I think. At the very least he's canonized more saints than all the other popes over the past four centuries put together.
My guess is that this is an attempt to stay the influence of the church by reaching out to his flock. JP2 has traveled a good bit more than any other pope; this reinvigorates the devout in the many lands he has visited. The deal with the saints is similar - it's easier for people to connect with local or more recent saints than those who lived 15+ centuries ago. I see it as a way of giving people something they will enjoy and be grateful for while still keeping a tight rein on more controversial issues. |

He wants to canonize Mother Theresa as a saint? Let 'im. What do we care about the internals of the church, as long as they don't interfere with us?

Yes, I think JP understands that the 21st century Church will be one based on mysticism and miracles, strong primarily in the Third World where such ideas still have a profound hold. The Catholic Church is going to become radically more conservative, reactionary, anti-science and anti-democratic in the coming years as the Third World Church develops more and more influence within the Church as a whole. |
