Newdow spoke at atheist meeting tonight in SJ
Just got back from the Atheists of Silicon Valley meeting of which Dr. Newdow was a panelist. When he went ot the podium, the audience gave him a long, loud, standing ovation.
The other panel members were a rep from AA, a Presbyterian, a member of Valley Bible Church, and an Ananda Sanghan, a religion that is theist, but incorporates meditation, self introspection, and possibly crystals.(Just kidding.) While the theists went off on tangents, especially the Bible guy, Dr. Newdow and Dave Kong,(the AA rep) kept their answers on point which was: Get the government out of the religion business. Newdow said things have happened that strengthen his case. He said a citizen can't sue Congress. But when the Congress butted into his lawsuit with their SR292, now he can! Also, the fact that the ex-wife has brought Christianity into it(she is now called an 'intervenor'), the argument that "under God" is simply ceremonial deism or not really a religious proclamation has been rendered useless. He mentioned that you can read all the 'dicta' and papers pertaining to this case on his website at http://www.restorethepledge.com. Gilly |

I'm sure Juneau can take care of itself. It's politically left-leaning (government workers, y'know), so I imagine there are enough freethinkers to give Judge Roy a friendly welcome.

I'm still uncertain about Newdow's standing, but it's possible that enough "rope" has been uncoiled that his opponents -- though they may be growing in number -- might hang themselves. |
