Complete destruction of all life. Being in a boat wouldn't make any difererence. So much heat would be released that every life form on earth would be parboiled in seconds. The Earth's surface would be red-hot, all the water would boil and go into the atmosphere, the air temperature would be hundreds if not thousands of degrees, the air pressure would be hundreds of atmospheres.

And how would you know that? Ever seen a global catastrophe of that scale before? Have scientists ever seen it happen? Then why make guesses? And since we are discussing a supernatural event - God could have altered the entire topography with the wave of a hand, with absolutely no heat involved. Remember - omnipotent, Almighty being? If He can speak the words, let it be so and create the entire universe instantly - keeping the world from boiling into nothing isn't that difficult.

Why bother with that whole ridiculous circus then? Just to make silly Bible people twist and turn trying to explain a physical impossibility?

Don't tell me: we don't understand why "God" does the zany, madcap things "He" does, right?

That crazy, koo-koo nut! He's just wacky - we don't know why!

What's this about "the world" being judged? It was only HUMANITY that "sinned", wasn't it? The flood knocked off a bunch of plants and animals that had nothing to do with man's sin!

Your "morality" is pathetic. So WHAT if god "gave 100 years of warnings? That's good for the ADULTS in the crowd, but what if you were only a kid who was born a week before the flood and you got drowned? Did you get any warnings? Did god decide to take you out of "harms' way"? Nope. You got the exact same punishment that the adults did who willfully disobeyed your "moral" god.

Could God have created humans incapable of evil in the first place? Yup He could have, but He would have to throw out free will in the process. Without the possibility of doing that which God forbids, how would it be possible to choose to obey Him freely? If free will didn't exist, disobeyal is impossible - in which case you are obeying God because its the only thing you can do, not because you want to. [/B]
What happens in heaven, then? If there's no more sin in heaven, then once there, people won't have free will anymore. And don't give me the sappy excuse of: the people there will have already chosen to follow god, as long as they're on earth, even they still sin! So, it's obvious that even they don't always choose to follow god. In heaven, that's taken away from them, is it not?

Yes, humanity sinned - and it sent a domino effect through all of Creation - corrupting everything that was perfect.

What if you were a kid? Do you know what the world was like back then? 100% pure evil and corruption. The only good in existence was found in Noah and his family. Which means, like kids do - they follow their parents example - become murderers, haters, rapists, theives etc., grow up to the point of understanding sin - reject God's warning - receive just punishment and end up in hell. As oppose to judging their original sin, along with the rest of the world - and taking them to heaven - before they are held accountable for their sins. Heaven >>>>>>>> Earth, especially in that kind of world. And then of course, what happens if God only judged the adults? You would just call Him evil for leaving all those children without parents, homeless and in turmoil. Sin is a rippling effect. It affects more than just you.

There is no temptation in Heaven. No reason to sin. Why would you give your life to Jesus for Him to be your Savior from sin - repent of your sinful and evil ways because you experienced the horror and pain that sin causes ( on Earth), just so you can go to paradise, where nothing evil or sad exists, and sin some more?

I have split all relevant posts out of the "AiG on 160K Homo sapiens" thread.

Carry on.

When god gave us free will, did he expect all of us to turn to him? God should realize that when there is a choice, it is inevitable that some will do one thing and others will do another. And given the lengths that god will go to punish unbelievers, it would seem that god is unfair. You also say that god gave 100 years warning for the flood. Did god speak through a prophet as he usually does. The way god goes about things, speaking through prophets and the like, he almost seems to encourage doubt, which mind you would have also come from him. If god exists the way the bible says he does, then he is quite frankly retarded.

Well, since scientists have seen much smaller events, and they know how much energy is produced with those, ramping it up for the restructuring of the planet is just a matter of scale.

Let's look at just a few other problems with restructuring the surface of the globe.

Silt would be a major factor, choking off marine life.

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/20...615674401.html

http://www.coralreefalliance.org/abo...fs/howold.html

If,somehow the ark and the things within could survive the heat, perhaps with a really good air conditioner ,the surface of the water would prove to be inhospitable.

http://www.navis.gr/meteo/volcanos.htm

In addition, the wonderful ecosystem in the deep ocean would have had to evolve in 4000 years or less.Creatures that are quite specialized for those depths.

http://www.mbayaq.org/efc/living_spe....asp?inhab=186

And so on,and so on.....

All of this can be solved with the "God can do anything" defence, but,of course, such a defence does nothing to prove the existance of such a being, nor does it serve to validate the bible as an accurate source of knowlege.

Sorry ’bout this, my points are off-topic, but since they occur to me here, here they are. I’ll happily tackle Magus on them in another thread if he’s willing.

So the vertebrate retina became the inverted idiocy it is through the corruption of man’s sin? It was human sin that gave bats an inferior respiration system to that of birds; that re-routed the giraffe’s laryngeal nerve fifteen feet out of its way under the aorta, which flipped the cephalopod gill to being non-countercurrent and then compensated for this by other mechanisms, is it?

If things were perfect originally, then such stupid designs were not part of god’s designs. So perhaps you could explain how man’s sinning acquired such creationary properties.

I seem to recall long summer holidays... living in a hole in the ground covered by a sheet of tarpaulin, a handful of 'ot gravel for breakfast, working twenty hour day at mill for tuppence a month, coming home and me Dad thrashing us to sleep with ’is belt.

Pah! Twas Luxury.

You know this how? Please explain how we are to tell that you’re not just making that up.

So not quite 100% then.

Um, so Noah was being good in chapter 9 then, when he gets pissed and passes out naked? What was with the cursing of Ham’s son when he came to? Yeah right. “Just and righteous”. Sure....

No, I’d call him evil for creating Plasmodium falciparum, Lyssavirus, ichneumon wasps and Rickettsia prowazekii.

Yeah, I’ve often wondered about that. So why did Satan rebel? I mean, it’s not like human free will and all that. We’ve got to take god on faith. But why in heaven (sic) would Satan rebel -- he knew all about god: if heaven’s as good as it gets and you absolutely know it, what reason is there to go against it? That’s not merely perverse teenage rebellion, that is pure masochism.

Oh, and to salvage a bit of on-topicness: perhaps Magus can explain how, in the midst of all this flooding and massive tectonic upheaval, lakes managed to dry out leaving fossilised mud cracks?
