4th of July family gatherings are royally going to suck this year I know they will be griping about it. Maybe I can get my husband on my side.

Talking

YES!

Quote:
"A profession that we are a nation `under God' is identical, for Establishment Clause purposes, to a profession that we are a nation `under Jesus,' a nation `under Vishnu,' a nation `under Zeus,' or a nation `under no god,' because none of these professions can be neutral with respect to religion," Judge Alfred T. Goodwin wrote for the three-judge panel.
and this..

Quote:
The court noted that the U.S. Supreme Court ( news - web sites) has said students cannot hold religious invocations at graduations and cannot be compelled to recite the pledge. But when the pledge is recited in a classroom, a student who objects is confronted with an "unacceptable choice between participating and protesting," the appeals court said.

"Although students cannot be forced to participate in recitation of the pledge, the school district is nonetheless conveying a message of state endorsement of a religious belief when it requires public school teachers to recite, and lead the recitation of, the current form of the pledge," the court said.

Of course, I'm still leaving...

This is the best news I've heard since my mother-in-law broke her ankle!
Fox News has surpassed itself; they gave out the phone number of one of the SF judges, encouraging viewers to call him. Fox News doesn't even bother trying to disguise its right-wing bias anymore.
One of the legal experts just said that maybe the US Supreme Court won't want to touch this case. Overturning the SF ruling would fly in the face of some of their previous rulings.

My extended family is going to be pissed. They'll still be talking about this come Thanksgiving. Step back while I do my "happy dance".

Then we won't stand for that shit. Any more than Jews would stand for Jew-bashing, or muslims would stand for muslim-bashing -- write a letter. Whether they like it or not a ruling arose that was good for the atheist/agnostic community, and the fact that they see this as evil, just proves what bigots they are.

Will II be making a press release?

If nothing else, hopefully this will force the courts to take a harder look at the flimsy logic that supported the "God" clauses in the first place. I forsee a whole lotta conservative cognitive dissonance.

Congrats to all you infidels--indeed congrats to all true patriots who love what makes this country great. This will certainly create a debate everywhere--which is exactly what our nation needs more of! Don't let people bash you--haha do I need to add this? Smiles for everyone.
