Thumbs up A Georgia Baptist college leaves the fold.

<a href="http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/metro/1102/23shorter.html" target="_blank">Shorter College opts out of Baptist convention</a>

Quote:
Leaders of Shorter say they must have control over electing their trustees to preserve the college's accreditation and academic prestige. The college has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the South's top liberal arts colleges.

Georgia Baptist Convention leaders say that "only committed Baptists" should serve as Baptist college trustees -- and only the convention should select them. They're also concerned that more secular boards fail to rein in professors who attack fundamental Baptist doctrines such as Biblical infallibility.

"Instead of our Baptist kids coming home from college stronger in their faith, they come home with their faith totally destroyed," says the Rev. Frank Cox, a convention leader and pastor of the North Metro Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.
Well if they didn't insist that your faith oppose reality, then such things wouldn't happen. I guess it's good that Shorter College doesn't want to become another education-challenged Bible "College."

Notice the draconian measures that the GBC was attempting to use. Good thing this college was willing to tell the GBC to "fuck off."

Good news. Little by little Christianity is tearing itself apart with its own bigotry. Let us not emulate them.
