Happy Eclipse Day!
Today is Solar Eclipse Day for some of us in the southern hemisphere. It begins in just over 10 hours from the time of this post.

Sadly I'm stuck at work although I suppose if I'd planned it better I might have made the trip. Well actually it's only about a 6 hour drive so I could almost have made a day trip of it - shit, the more I talk about this the more I realise how easy it would have been.
Still, we get 88% in Adelaide - although it is very cloudy today It's also cloudy at Ceduna (on the coast) so a lot of people are packing up and driving north east and further inland. The NASA site I linked to has a calendar/map of future eclipses; there are several in the next 10-12 years in different parts of the world, so maybe that will be an excuse for a holiday in future years. People in those areas of south australia rented out their houses for $3800 for the week, and they were booked a year in advance.
It's just a ball of gas and a rock, people. |
