Default I have just watched "Unlocking the Mystery of Life"...

...and I feel sick. Not sure if it was the sight of all those people pretending to be terribly regretful that Darwinian evolution was dead or all those motion sickness-inducing graphics.

What a bloody awful experience. And it was billed in the KCSM scedule as a science programme (at least it mentioned DNA a few times and it didn't mention God once). I shall be writing to them tomorrow to complain about passing this tripe off as science. I'm intending to point out that whenever someone comes up with a revolutionary new challenge to an established scientific theory, it's customary for a decent TV programme (as opposed to an infomercial-type piece of work) to let both sides have their say, not allow one side to present both their own argument AND the opposition argument. I'm also intending to point out that it doesn't take a rocket scientist to find out the background of Illustra (the prominent mention of the four foundations that provided funding, all of which are evangelical Christian and not a single scientific one among them, should have provided the hint of a clue) and the religious leanings of the participants and their books on the subject. And then I'm going to ask whatever possessed KCSM to pass this off as a science programme, given all those pointers that it was nothing of the sort. And if I don't get a halfway decent answer, they're not getting any more money from me, even though I've been a consistent contributor for about 15 years.

Is there anything else I should be adding to my letter? Feeling too sick to think straight just now.

And that damned video is *still* listed for sale in the science-and-math/biology section of the PBS on-line store.

Don't they have a theology section or something? Anything that's funded by the Fieldstead Foundation, The Crowell Foundation, the Stewardship Foundation, and the Servant Foundation, with nary a mention of the NSF or the Wellcome Trust or anything else remotely scientific, is hardly likely to really be about science. Surely they know that. If they don't, then the Wedge Strategy is working.
