"The God Helmet" - Saturday Night magazine
Has anybody read the article by Robert Hercz called "The God Helmet"?
It appers in the October 2002 issue of Saturday Night magazine and it describes an experiment by a neurologist at Laurentian University that uses a device to stimulate the temporal lobes of the brain with a magnetic field. The results vary greatly among individuals, but it evokes incredible feelings - from visions, to intense anger and fear, to the physical feeling of being dragged or pulled, to sheer joy. It's been dubbed the "God Helmet" and Michael Persinger is, in part, showing how the "brain creates god, rather than the other way around." There is so much interesting stuff here, but I can't reproduce the article and they do not have an active website. Any other Canadians pick this one up? |

Here's a link to a <a href="http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/7.11/persinger.html" target="_blank">Wired</a> article.
