Default Catholic archbishop on our side

Most of the other Australians here would be well aware of the G-G debacle, which culminated Sunday in his resignation. I just spotted an article on the views of the Catholic Archbishop of Sydney, George Pell, who gave his thoughts about it all.

He seems to hold very sensible views towards church-state seperation.

Is this sort of opinion common among church leaders? I can't recall ever hearing any speak about this subject before(besides fundamentalists overseas, anyway).

Funny how Catholics discovered the benefits of church state separation when they were a minority sect in a country.

Well, it's good to see that we're not the only ones fighting to keep church and state separate. I do however (as well as Toto) find it ammusing that religionists only support it when they're a minority.

Catholics aren't actually in the minority in Australia, though. It's the largest xian denomination here, at just over 25% of the population, with Anglicans second, at around 19%.

Ah, whatever the reason, it's good to see.

i think this type of opinion is one of the things that helps make this such a great land to live in! yay for the diversity in religion, culture, and opinion in australia that makes us have to compromise and accept differences.
(not saying there isn't room for improvement tho!)

Church-State separation generally helps the religionists.

Just look at the state of religion in Christian countries like Norway, Canada, etc.

They languish compared to the state of religion in the US. I'm not suprised.
