That was a debate?
I watched the whole thing and it made me feel sick then angry, then sick again. Donahue should have waited until he warmed up a bit before taking on this topic and Buchanon should be banned from all non religious TV networks. Ugh It was just more of the same tired arguing we`ve been hearing since last month while the real issue with the pledge goes ignored. Why can`t just one person stand up and say that none of this bullshit would have ever happened if those morons in 50`s had left the fucking thing the way it was??? Buchanon showed his true colors when he referred to Newdow several times as "that sorry atheist" and Donahue was kinda funny when he kept calling Buchanon "Patriick"as if he was talking to a little kid. |

<strong>"that sorry atheist"</strong>
This was the phrase that got me. "That sorry Jew." Not likely. "That sorry Muslim." Not gonna fly. Even these days. "That sorry Catholic." Right. It's lonely at the top. |

I can't believe I tuned in for the entire "debate". I guess I was hoping it would get better. Phil really disappointed me BIG time. I felt like Phil had a speech prepared, and no matter what Pat said, he wasn't going to alter it. Oh well.

Besides, even if he was a "liberal theist", what would be wrong with that? One of the most articulate defenders of the seperation of church and state is the Reverand Barry Lynn. In fact, it would have been better, probably, if Lynn took on Buchanan, and Phil moderated. |

I don't know what the hell Pat Buchanan was babbling about, but it sure wasn't the decision. |

I will not watch that show again. The issue was handled in an embarrassing fashion, with neither side getting at what the issue or the ruling really addresses.
Phil went off on his monologue about the Jehovah Witness who was forced to pledge in school in spite of her parents' instructions. The issue isn't about forced allegiance pledging. That the JW case happened in the early '40s, over a decade before the "under god" phrase was inserted into the pledge, further removes the issue from relevance to the topic at hand. Why is the issue rarely, if ever, raised that we are supposed to have separation of powers in this country? Just because Congress passes a law does not mean the law is constitutional; that's what the courts are for. The court decided that the '54 insertion of the phrase "under god" into the Pledge of Allegiance is a violation of the constitutionally protected separation of church and state. If the Pledgers want to argue the ruling, they have to demonstrate that Congress's insertion of "under god" isn't a law respecting the establishment of religion. And is Pat Buchanan the best they could come up with for a guest? He ceased being interesting, even as a source of frustration, years ago. I turned off the show before the debate was over and I deleted all the cable news channels from my TiVo receiver. All the news that the giant corporations want me to have, I can do without. I found myself too often watching in hope that someone will say something to challenge the status quo, but it never happens. Phil realizes his opinion on the Pledge ruling is unpopular and he spent the entire debate/interview coddling the superstitious. Just once I'd like to see some television host confront the christers on the show. Personally, I don't care how, if, or what someone worships. They can cum all over themselves with their christ-love. Just don't cum all over me, too. Now, that said, does anyone have a tissue? I think they got some in my eye. -Jerry |

And later he goes on to say: "I am pleased to say from my own heart, on my own time and in my own opinion, God Bless America!" Maybe he's just professing ceremonial deism. |
