Post What do you guys think of Hugh Ross?

Hi guys, I'm new to the board. I can confess to being an old earth creationist and I am a big fan of this guy Hugh Ross. He's this phycisist who is a Christian and a big proponent of Creationism. Anyway, he has a show that comes on TV and he is always making it sound like scientists are right about to give up and say that evolution didn't happen. Now, I agree with his opinons about creation (he's an old earther) I have always been skeptical of his enthusiasm. I always wish there were an evolutionist on the show to dispute the claims.

So I want to ask you guys what you think of him and of his claim of the "fine-tuning" of the universe. This is the link:

Thanks guys.

I believe Dr. Hovind has debunked many of Ross' claims on The John Ankerberg Show.

I think Ross is fine - as long as he is talking about physics. Once he ventures into geology and biology, he tends to make some pretty absurd statements. You may want to check out Glenn Morton's review of Ross' book, The Genesis Question.

I'm assuming that's a joke, unless there are young earth creationists on this board.

It's a joke. Seriously though, where does Ross come up with those "probabilities" he's got posted on the page you linked?

ps418, do you have any specific problems with the table in the link above? Or do you have a link to anyone who does?

hezikiah, I came over here to ask you folks that. I'll try emailing his site and asking him, if nobody on here knows.

I'm just trying to find out whether if he puts this kind of stuff right in front of scientists whether they will laugh in his face or respect him. I'm also interested in whether or not he just has a bad name among scientists.

Question

I just don't understand it.

Quote:
Parameter 4: Galaxy Location
Probability of Galaxy Falling within Required Range without Divine Design: 0.1
What's that mean? What "required range"?

Oh, I though you were asking what I thought about Ross' work in general.

Since the table does not bear on evolution one way or the other (evolution could obviously happen in a fine-tuned universe), and does not specify how each individual probability is calculated, I dont have any problem with it. If you're interested in critiques of fine-tuning arguments, you can find plenty by searching infidels.org.
