Thumbs up Anthropology of Food?

I don't know if this belongs here or not - but I'll give it a shot:

I'm interested in learning about the anthropology of food. A professor at my university is interested in helping me do an independent study on the subject, however, she is asking that I narrow the topic down a bit (it's rather broad, no?).

I'm wondering if anyone here has taken such a course (or has one offered at his/her university) and if maybe we could start a discussion on what kind of specifics would make a good study.

Thoughts?

I haven't taken any such courses, but something that might be interesting to study is the acceptance or rejection of certain types of foods, such as insects or worms, by some cultures vs. other cultures.

A book I recently read has more than a few chapters on this subject (specifically how it relates to the relative technology levels of societies). Apparently its also required reading in a higher-level anthro course at the local uni.

Anyway, the book is <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0393317552/qid=1033069858/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/103-6021862-2062253?v=glance&n=507846" target="_blank">Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fats of Human Societies</a> by Jared Diamond. A fantastic read.
