Well, in the 2002 tax year, $3,000 was exempted from federal income tax for each dependent. I think there's also an Earned Income Tax Credit with additional child credits.

But AFAIK there's no payment rewards simply for having kids.

You should mean unfortunately, not. Most of the first world nations have similar such programs. I see that the USA lags behind in a good many things in the civilized world. But hey, you are sure up there in capital punishment.

The program was never mean to be used for necessities in life, but as an allowance for children to spead on the stuff they liked. In the begining it wasn't all that much, but it had been invested so well that it has grown to be quite a sizable amount for it child. It was a gift from our fallen heroes to the children of Canada.

BTW, what does the American government do with the left over canteen funds from it soldiers who are killed in action? Does it still have such a fund?

BTW, I don't see why you should be opposed to a family allowance like this one since it is not being paid for with tax dollars. It is from an act of human compassion.

Where does the money come from, if not from taxes?

Having children is a choice. Why should it be subsidized by the government?

Because it isn't a subsidy for having children. It is an allowance for children to do as they please. To buy candy and comic books and the like. Not to buy school clothes or supples, or to be used to run the house. It is meant to be givien all to the child. And the money doesn't actually come from the government, they only administrate it.

The money comes from the remaining canteen fund of soldiers, who died in WWII, which had been invested so that the children of Canada could have a little extra spending money of their own. They never realized that the dividends would amount to so much over time.

What money are you referring to? It sounds like money that should have been returned to their families.
