As a substitute, I like to say the Matt Groening version:
I plead alignment to the flake of the untitled snakes of a merry cow. And to the Republicans, for which they scam, one nacho, underpants, invisible with licorice and jugs of wine for owls. btw, if the ruling gets overturned, I hope that some teacher out there who understands the Constitution will have his class say "one nation under no God" instead to cause controversy. He would have the same right to have them say that as he would to have them say the current pledge. And it sure would piss of the religious right What probably is the most annoying thing to me is that people are saying that this interfers with the rights of Christians. We've all heard that one before. BTW, I can't wait to see how The Onion handles this one. |

There's a (partial) one from Calvin & Hobbes too... I think it starts out something like
I pledge allegiance to Queen Fragg, And her mighty state of hysteria... |

I was listening to a local talk show and the host kept insisting on the point that "under god" isn't a religious statement; it's just a usual banal statement--one that has become tradition. She said, "No one is forcing anyone to believe in god for saying the pledge." She went on to say, "People who support this need to get a life and worry about more important things."

Excitment - the freethinkers of this country have taken a huge step. But what are the Christians going to do? Something big from them is going to happen, it's just that no one knows what.

Just a petty, self-serving request.
In an earlier message, I stated that only 4.35% of people voting on my local station's poll about the pledge supported the ruling. So I asked people to stop and vote if they got the chance. I'd like to ask again, this time with a link. I'd love to skew some statistics in this heavily fundamentalist area. This particular station has been very pro-"under God" and hasn't made much attempt at impartiality, and it would be immensely satisfying to me if their numbers were tremendously out of line with those of other stations in the area. You can find the poll here, at WFMY2.com WFMY Thanks, Chuck |
