The Sarah problem
In GENESIS, Sarah is 'taken' by both an unnamed Pharoah and Ablimech as a concubine. However Sarah must have been a senior citizen at both points! It's stated before the Ablimech situtuation that she "Ceases to be in the manner of woman" and is "Very old". Yet apparentally the Pharoah and Ablimech 'bring her into their house'.
Now, either these kings had peculiar fetushes, Sarah was as hot as Raquel Welch, or this is another bible absurdity. Any thoughts? |

Yeah, I've always thought that whole interchange bizarre. Abraham moves to Gerar and tells everybody that Sarah is his sister because he is afraid he will be killed if they (whoever "they" are) will kill him if they find out Sarah is his wife. Then Abimelech sends for Sarah (yeah, she must have been an older hottie to attract all the attention), but he doesn't touch her because God appears to him in a dream. But what's really weird is when Abimelech returns Sarah to Abraham and asks him why he claimed she was his sister, Abraham admits that Sarah is indeed his half-sister (both had the same father).
Maybe this family tradition of incest shouldn't surprise us as we only have to look in the previous chapter (19) to find Abraham's nephew, Lot, fathering children by his own daughters. What a wonderful example of "family values"... |

This caused the Talmudic commentators of the Torah to comment: "there is no early and late in the Torah". That is, the Bible is not a chronologically-ordered narrative. A feeble excuse, IMHO, since the Bible most definitely is chronologically ordered, unlike, say, the Qur'an. Quote:

Emotional young?
It is my understanding, sarah was 51-65 years old in Gen 12:15, and near 38 in Gen 20:2. She evidently died at age 127. (Genesis 20:2) And Abraham repeated concerning Sarah his wife: She is my sister. With that A·bimŽe·lech king of GeŽrar sent and took Sarah. (Genesis 12:15) And the princes of PharŽaoh also got to see her and they began praising her to PharŽaoh, so that the woman was taken to the house of PharŽaoh. Anybody have other ages for those versus? Max |

The Sarah Problem,
What does "taken" mean. Kind of sounds like abducted. Jubilees defines wife as "taken from her husband". What was Sarah's relationship with Abram? Was she his sister or his 1/2 sister? Who was Lot's mother? Who was Lot's father? see my map on www.josephus-pursuit.com. Could Haran have been the pharoah? What was Haran's relationship with Abram and Sarai? If Abram and Haran are brother's is this Cain slaying Abel? Oh, reading Jubilees one gets the impression that Abram slew Haran. Moses slew an Egyprtian and hid him. Cain slew Abel and hid him. Coincidence? Jacob slew Esau. Reading the occult one can surmise that Abram and Sarai copulated and produced Lot. Abram visited "Egypt" and his younger brother, the pharoah of Qumran, who aducts Sarai and has a couple of daughters with her. When Abram retaliates he is already neutered and has his son Lot have intercourse with the daughters produced by Haran and Sarai. Since Lot becomes Abraham (not Abram) he is accused of having sex with his daughter's who are actually his sisters. thanks, Offa |
