I think both participants were guilty of not fully addressing each others arguments during their rebuttals.
The xian presented many of the same arguments I've seen posted on these forums many times and I actually got a very deep sense of deja vu about halfway through the first part of his rebuttal. Regardless of the eventual acquiesence, I think it was poor form for the xian to simply play a recording of himself as his opening statement. The muslim was a little difficult to understand at times due to his accent, but that is really my problem and not a problem with his arguments. I was disappointed that the muslim didn't call the xian on certain points that were raised, instead continuing only to restate his own points during his rebuttal. Both participants brought up excellent points, but because many of those points were not very well rebutted by the opponent, it seemed less like a debate and more like a two sided lecture at times. All in all it was a good show for a live debate. I just wish I would have caught the earlier debate between the atheist and the xian. |
