"Spooks" and so-called islamophobia
On Monday I watched an episode of a popular BBC thriller series called Spooks, based somewhat loosely on MI5.
It would, of course, be a mistake to take this sort of fiction as the truth. This is not a documentary. Nevertheless, it seems to me that the makers of this series do try to deal with a variety of current security issues in a fairly realistic way. The fictional situation in this episode bore some resemblance to what happened recently in London's Finsbury Park mosque, even to the wicked mullah getting his comeuppance from the Charity Commissioners. (When you think about it, an equivalent would be having a fictional 1920s gangster in a US city other than Chicago be trapped for tax evasion.) There is no doubt that some mullahs in some mosques have been training young men as jihadis, terrorists and suicide bombers. The programme made strenuous efforts to show that there are muslims who oppose this sort of thing and also to show how the young can be brainwashed. Nevertheless, all sorts of muslim spokesmen have been complaining about it. It seems as though it will soon be impossible to portray any muslim character as a criminal or fanatic. There was pressure on the BBC to suppress the episode, and I am glad that they had the courage to screen it anyway. Fiction like this can be a useful way of getting people to discuss important issues. I would hate to see us getting to a point where programmes like this would be censored. |

Absolutely, and not only in the UK, but in France, Europe, Germany etc. The muslim youth , most of them born in Europe, are not a part of the society (with exceptions). Have no jobs or bad jobs, and are very unhappy. But the Mosques, (financed by Saudia by the way) are guiding them towards confrontation. Europe has urgently to get its act together and do something for this unadapted part of the population. Let there be no mistake. They are there to stay. Therefore in our interest, lets solve this issue before it becomes seriously confrontational. |

In my opinion, the British Government is making things worse by encouraging state-funding of faith-based schools, including muslim ones. This is likely to delay further the integration of muslims into British society (something many of them resist anyway).

Islam is a veritable plague, as dangerous as AIDS and SARS combined. Wherever there is Islam, there is terrorism. There exists non-Islamic terrorism, but there does not exist non-terroristic Islam.
I wish Qur'an criticism were as advanced as Bible criticism. There is here a Bible Criticism Forum, but no Qur'an Criticism Forum. There's a Sceptic's Annotated Bible, but no Sceptics' Annotated Qur'an as yet. |
