Second chance after death?
I've heard the Mormons believe that people get a second chance to convert after they die. I seem to remember that belief having Biblical (as in, Old/New Testament) support, but I can't find it. Can anyone give me a hand?

Check Revelations, I doubt if the Old Testament says much of anything about life after death, that’s a Christian concept. People in OT times thought when you die you go into the ground (Sheol) and just sort of sleep.

VoF,
I've had some extensive "discussions" with Mormons over the years and I can confirm that they have some sort of post death redemptive belief. I think they subscribe to the several layers of heaven theory where nominal Xians, Jews, Muslims, and the like (people of the Book?)who lived morally are assigned to a lower inferior type heavenly reward which basically entails serving the Mormons as they move on towards celestial glory and what not. I think. dd |

Veil of Fire,
It's 1 Peter you're wanting: Namely: 1 Peter 4:6 "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead, that though they are judged in the flesh as men, they may live in the spirit according to the will of God." Chapter 3 also has a somewhat confusing passage: 18-20: "For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water." |

Malachi 4:5 Look, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the Lord comes.
Matthew 17:9 As they were coming down from the mountain, Jesus commanded them, "Do not tell anyone about the vision until the Son of Man is raised from the dead." 17:10 The disciples asked him, "Why then do the experts in the law say that Elijah must come first?" 17:11 He answered, "Elijah does indeed come first and will restore all things. 17:12 And I tell you that Elijah has already come. Yet they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. In the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands." 17:13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them about John the Baptist. Doesn't this seem like a reference to Reincarnation? Elijah reincarnating as John the Baptist? |
