Question Egyptian curses

Moderators feel free to move this. I was not sure what forum to put this in...

Hi everyone
I was wondering about Egyptian curses. I was watching a show about them and it appears they are religiously stemmed. Please correct me if I am wrong.

One of the skeptics said the curses were probably some sort of microvirus in the tomb that did caused ones demise in certain situations. I've also heard some say the potential for deadly mosquito bites or insect bites was a possibility so I started thinking was it the mosquitos? was it in fact a microvirus in the tombs? These seem like logical explanations to me.

So what is up with all of the curses of Egypt? What are the premises behind them? I wonder why would a dead person care what happened to all of his trinkets. It just seems like they were kind of greedy by wanting to take all of their belongings with them to the grave and not only that, those people over there take these curses very seriously...The Egyptians seem kind of scared...

Do you feel that these curses are in fact a bit of self fulfilling prophesies?
IOW do you think the things that happen to people would probably happen regardless of a curse and they somehow blame the curses for any misfortunes and even death?

I suppose I could see that of anything affiliated with religion. For instance when something really great happens to someone they may say "wow I am really blessed" and attribute the good to God however when the bad happens many may also feel they are being punished in some way...

I think they are, those "curses" are basicly "punishments by the egyptian gods" for raiding tombs.

I'll leave this with the experts, adding that I off course don't hold superstitious beliefs

I think the whole premise behind that, is that those gifts were ment for the gods, thats why said gods get pissed off when those tombs get raided.

As far as the selffullfilling prohecy goes, there may very well be a psychological element involved, affecting the people affected by alledged cuses

The god beliefs of the Egyptians were different from abrahamic religion in many respects, I'm boldly guessing.

I agree about a psychological element involved but to what extent Mar? Do you think religious people are more prone to these self fulfilling prophesies hon?

There is no "Mummy's Curse".

It has been officially debunked statistically.

I understood that they weren't curses at all.
Anyone got an example of a curse written in a tomb?

(Good question lieverd )
In general? Tough call, considering an obese person stuffing their face because they're unhappy about their appearance for instance. But when it comes to the "curse-issue" in particular, I'd say yeah.
