Salvation for the mentally ill killer?
A thought occurred to me while reading the Paradox? thread about murdering children to give them salvation. I didn't want to hijack that thread, so...
Suppose someone is demonstrably insane to the point that they cannot tell right from wrong. They commit grievous sins - perhaps murder, perhaps something else that is an affront to God. Suppose also this person is mentally ill to the point that they can never repent - it is not possible for them to recognize the necessity. Would Christians expect that this person could get into heaven? Or is this person condemned to hell? And if he's going to hell, did he ever have a chance at salvation? This is probably a silly question for me (an atheist) to ask on an atheist board, but it struck me as another one of these odd (unfair) potential outcomes of Christian doctrine. Jamie |

Does God sentence the mentally retarded to Hell too because they can't comprehend salvation?
I don't think that God would condemn someone for being ill. But hey, I'm probably whitewashing the issues and hiding behind my ideas instead of following the true Christianity of the Dark Ages. --tibac |
