Paramahansa Yogananda
I am trying to track down a rumor that on his deathbed, Paramahansa Yogananda, the Self Realization Fellowship Guru, refuted all his claims about direct communications with paranormal beings or spirits. If anybody could point me to an original article or source on this I'd appreciate it.

I don't have any source for you, but it sounds like a silly rumor to me. For him to have renounced his entire worldview on his deathbed sounds fishy. Also, if true, this is the kind of thing I would expect to hear about among those engaged in scholarly study of yogananda's teachings/writings, but I have never once encountered it. |

It's my understanding that Yogananda's "deathbed" was not exactly what one ordinarily understands by that term. Yogananda died during a deep self-induced meditation shortly after saying farewell to his disciples. For this reason, I'm extremely skeptical about any such "deathbed confession" on his part.
I closely followed the Self-Realization Fellowship teachings for several years. Nothing I observed then led me to believe that the SRF account of Yogananda's death is inaccurate. As to their claims about paranormal experiences, of course, that's an entirely different matter. |

In Rev. 22:1 this same image is presented with "the sea was no longer." The sea here is the soul (or subconscious mind), and if the soul, self, paranormal or heaven has been Realized it does not exist anymore but just is as in "I AM." Anatta is no soul (or no sea) and Nairatmya is the state of soulessness after the at-one-ment of mind and soul (Realization). [ March 15, 2002: Message edited by: Amos ]</p> |

Amos, reading your posts seems the surest way to Realization, since I can't rationally understand most of them.
