Cool Creationist Pinko-Commies

Did anyone catch Barbra Walters' interview with Fidel Castro last week? She asked him what his favorite subject in school was, to which he replied "history". He then went on to say that he loved history including the "sacred histories" of adam and eve and the Great Flood. Sounds like he must be a biblical literalist(aka creationist) if he regards Noah as being historical reality just like Attila the Hun. I know a lot of bible humpers are down on communism, and Castro, maybe the next time one equates evolutionary theory with Hilter just remind him that Castro sees eye to eye with him.

Perhaps it was just a broken english way of saying that he liked Christian mythological accounts of history? I like the Greek mythological account of history but that does not mean I believe it is factually true.

Actually the USSR (and probably Cuban)biological sciences were governed by Lamarkian evolutionary principles. I remember reading former Soviet biologists were rejoicing because they could now embrace Darwinism and natural selection.

Just a thought... Marx, Stalin and Mao were all of the opinion that religion was a tool of the aristocracy to subjegate the proletariat... but Cubans are as Catholic as any other Latin American (in the sense of Latin America) ethnic group.

Maybe Castro's more Cuban than a textbook Marxist. Or maybe he feels that Church policies and governance are tools of oppression, but that a God exists.

That happened in the late 1950's. Before that, during the Stalin years, the theorizing of plant breeder and quack geneticist Trofim Lysenko had been official dogma, and Mendelism, Weismannism, and Morganism had been dirty words. Lysenko believed that he could alter crop plants' heredity by altering their environment and produce improved varieties much faster than mainstream biologists could do. But his experimental techniques were shoddy almost beyond belief, so it is not surprising that he could easily claim good results.
