Behavorial Health

The debate has been raging for some time at Baptist board about mental illness versus sin. There are some posters over there who feel, apparently violently, that all mental problems are caused by sin and that pyschcology was invented by the devil himself.

I read this with interest, because it shows the absolutely heartless nature of some of these people over there, as well as a glimmer of hope from some others.

Just imagine the fallout if a Christian couple dragged their 9 year old hellion into a "Christian Counseling" office and the counselor leaned accross the desk and said,

"Son, if you don't start doing what your daddy says the birds are fixin' to pick your eyes out and feed them to their babies!"

My parents used that one over me not wanting to eat a bowl of vegetable soup when I was 7 years old. They sat a timer and talked about how birds would eat my eyes for my rebellion while I sat and stared at the soup. When I didn't eat it they spanked my ass and sent me to bed without supper.

I can't eat vegetable soup without thinking of eyeballs now.
