Religion the basis of morality?
Why do religious people state that?
Yes all religions offer moral codes, nonetheless do religious people only feel bound to be ethical because the Bible or Koran tells them to? If so, then that's a fairly weak basis for one's ethics. |

In my opinion, they've got it ass backwards. Society is the basis of morality; religion is simply the instrument through which morality is disseminated. As evidence, simply attend church services in different cultures. That church will reflect the social mores of that culture, not the other way around.
