After making the mistake of seeing Highlander 3, I knew better than to go see Highlander 4.

Sorry to hear you subjected yourself to it.

Highlander 2

Burial Ground

Star Wars Episode I: The Fandom Menace

The Pirate Movie

The Haunting remake

Red Dragon (the remake of Manhunter)

Cobra

Caligula) (there's one scene where an actress can't even act dead convincingly!)

Wild Wild West (it takes a lot of skill to make a movie this bad with people that talented, and yet ...)

In and Out (what is it with Kevin Kline and his choice of roles? The man is one of the best actors out there, and yet he keeps getting these terrible parts!)

Anything by Mel Brooks after Blazing Saddles.

Hedwig,

Really? I didn't think it was humanly possible to create a worse movie than Over the Top. *shudder*

You obviously haven't seen Cobra. I think it featured every police action movie cliche ever invented, plus a few bonus gems of stupidity such as:
  1. The bad guys are determined to bring about some sort of "New World Order," apparently by banging hammers together rythmically and by stabbing random people on the streets of LA.
  2. Near the beginning, Stallone singlehandedly foils an armed robbery at a grocery store. This, of course, lets the audience know that he's a Tough Cop (TM). We have more plot to cram in here, though, because we need some way to let the audience know that he's working on a Tough Case (TM). How do we do that? As he's leaving the grocery store, a reporter runs up and asks "Is this related to the Night Slasher?" What the hell kind of question is that? Yes, genius, the guy with the shotgun who steals in broad daylight is related to the guy with the knife who kills at night. Every crime ever committed in LA is related to the Night Slasher. The guy with the cheater cable box and the clerk who takes money out of the register are also related to the Night Slasher, dumbass

Oh, and I don't care what any of you say, A.I. is one of the best movies I've seen in recent years.

Gurdur,

I didn't. I suggested you substantiate your negative view of the film, not your dislike of it.
There's a difference.

Is there? It seems to me that she stated her opinion of the film, not that she attempted to assert that the film is objectively of poor quality, unless you're counting "it sucks" as such a statement.

Anyway, it always amuses me how confrontational people (myself included...I've gone to the mat defending A.I.) can be when arguing over a critique of a work of art. Sometimes it seems that we get more fired up over ths crap than we do over, say morality, politics, or the exstence of god(s).

Actually, since the thread is supposed to be about the "Worst film ever!" and not "Movies I hate" then by including it in the thread, it is being asserted that it is poor quality, yes?

I knew better, but my friend and were bored, saw that it was out, and said screw it! let's go! We laughed our asses off through the whole thing, so it worth it actually.

sigh... I think I made it pretty damn clear that I'm aware others admire the film and I respect their opinions. However I do not personally see anything great about it, in fact, I thought it sucked. That is my opinion. I recognize that people's responses to art are often highly personal and so must be treated with sensitivity. Which is why I deliberately pointed out that I have respect for those who enjoyed Blade Runner. However I am not one of them.

ALL ART CRITICISM involves subjective/personal/intuitive elements. It's NOT a philosophical exercise, debate will not yield any clear-cut "answers," and there is no one "correct" opinion. Unlike, say, math, where there is one and only one correct answer. And at the risk of further pissing some of you off i'd like to mention that i find it is often exclusively-left-brained-types that fail to see/make the distinction between these two paradigms.

Imho noone should have to defend the statement "I hated that movie" in a discussion like this one. They have the authority to make the statement simply for being a living breathing human being. Art is about humanity, and if it does not speak to my experience of humanity I am entitled to say so.

Generally speaking I find a lot of this behavior to come down to discomfort with ambiguity. "I can't accept that there are valid perspectives other than my own, as that would make the world too complicated."
