Should people try to become God?
In the Renaissance, there were a lot more people than before who didn't believe in the Christian concept of God. And some of them, like Cornelius Agrippa, tried to become God themselves. I think it's actually kind of strange that this hasn't happened more often. There is more than one logical reaction to believing God doesn't exist, but trying to become God yourself is certainly one of them.
I wouldn't try to become God, because I think that position in the universe is taken. But if someone is an atheist, why don't they try to do it? Hell, I would rather live in a universe where an atheist from this forum is God, than where no one is. I think it is strange that fewer atheists have taken this option. |

I think playing fast-and-loose with your terms turns your suggestion into nonsense. What do you mean "become God"? Should we strive to perform creation ex nihilo?
{added} In any case, I don't think MF&P is the best place for this. MRD perhaps? [ November 22, 2002: Message edited by: Philosoft ]</p> |

I would try to become God if I knew how, but sadly, no method of becoming God that I know of has been found.
Do you know of a method to become God? |

Golly, I guess we would need the ability to be a supernatural ruler. Can you buy that at Wal-Mart?
Seriously, we are god, we made him, we control our lives, and collectively we rule the domain controllable by us. Do you have any suggestions on how I could become the supernatural omnieverything of the universe. I'd be interested because I'm sure it would help me pick up chicks. |

I heard that mormons believe that they can eventually become gods and even have their own world to rule over. Anyone know anything about this?
I don't think I'd like to hang out with someone who thinks they have achieved godhood. Just try playing cards with that guy, what if he lost? |

Do you perhaps mean "Jesus" specifically when you say "God"? In other words, that we should use our knowledge of religion, gained outside the box as it were, to become L. Ron Hubbards?
What makes you think that Benny Hinn isn't exactly what you're talking about, an atheist fleecing the gullible? I find it hard to believe that even cognitive dissonance could allow that man to think that he is actually performing real miracles.... |

How do you know I'm not God already?

Well ... I have been called a Goddess before, so perhaps I have already achieved some supernatural abilities already
