There were even competitions among story tellers to come up with the best stories about Mohammed's life. Competitors knew that their stories could end up in somebody's version of the holy book. It would be beyond naive to say that there was a single author. It's a fascinating subject that deserves more scholarship, though.
It may be naieve to suggest a single author, but I didn't suggest one. I suggested a single compiler.

LOL

Haran should make sure he signs on at least one imam, preferably one that writes an online newsletter on the latest developments in Islam, to advise him in his final report. He could claim him as a member of his "peer review committee", too.

Sorry, I'm not sure I quite get the joke here.

If these are thinly veiled criticisms of me and/or my response to Rochelle Altman, then please be forthright and explicit so I can at least defend myself...

Good grief... You look for a discussion and...:banghead:

I don't think there were any veiled criticisims. Just a bit of fun....

Actually, I always wondered why everybody argued whether the inscription had been incised or excised and why people ignored the possibility that it had been circumcised. Surely a real Jewish inscription would have been circumcised.

It was a joke based on a criticism of Altman, not you, which I would thought you would get because you had criticized an Altman report.

best,
Peter Kirby

No problem. Somehow it flew over my head. Sorry.

I guess I'm a bit testy today, huh?! See...
