Default Christianity Becoming a Dirty Word in Canada

Here. Funny. But if any of it is true, I shall be quite glad.

That article is nonsense. The very truth of the matter is that Chrisitianity as an ideology is not a huge issue here. There is no "evolution question" in schools, for instance. Stockwell Day lost his leadership of the Alliance Party, not because it was Christian, but because under his leadership the party:

- lost seats in parliament
- failed to gain any ground in central Canada
- failed to eliminate the Conservatives, with who they share the vote

And as for this statement:

Quote:
Canadian politicians and special interest groups attacked the Canadian Alliance because many of its members (and leader) are Christians.
Bullshit.

They get attacked because they make stupid comments about other ethnic groups and homosexuals.

As for Day's Christianity, anyone who thinks the earth is 6,000 years old is unfit to govern the country, IMO.

During that election a lot of people specifically voted against the Alliance because they thought religion and government should never mix with such blatancy as (what was feared) would be evident under a Stockwell Day majority leadership.

All told, Day seems like an intelligent fellow, but a terrible politician - and I distrust the Alliance on different grounds altogether than any religious bearings it may have. I think a lot of Canadian voters just do not look at the Alliance seriously - and with good reason, too I should think...

Is 'Christianity' a dirty word in Canada? No. Do democratic Canadians want their leaders to be listening to them instead of someone/something else? Generally speaking, yes.

All I remember is a couple-of-days jab between Jean, pointing out the foolishness of creationism, and Stock, pointing out the foolishness of transsubstantiation. I'm sure the press conference in a wetsuit had more impact on the voters.

I don't even think that the failure of the Reform P^H^H^H^H^H^H^H^HCanadian Alliance had anything to do with the leadership at all. Eastern voters just looked for a party with a broader platform than "screw the Liberals", but the only thing that was uniting the western core of the party was a common hatred of the Liberals. Stock couldn't possibly expand into one block without losing the other.
