Suicide isn't any more paradoxical than any of God's other traits, and who are you to define his nature? Therefore God can kill himself.

In SL&S, us poor atheists are getting asked to pray with our kids and say grace at family dinners.

Now, I know exactly what to pray for.

This begs the question: If he did kill himself, how would we ever know? Perhaps we would no longer see images of Jesus in tortillas, but that's about all I can come up with.

Maybe he already did commit suicide hundreds of years ago, and that's why we don't see any cool Biblical miracles anymore (sun standing still, etc), just the more mundane and highly questionable "God cured my toenail fungus" variety.

Well, theologically, he cannot.

I would guess... yeah he could, and the world would remain the same.
Actually, his death is the subject of this book.

I just thought of something...

Wouldnt it be horrible to not be able to kill yourself? If things get really bad for you down here and there is no other way to fix them, you can take an acid bath or something, and it would all be over with. Of course God could always be able to fix stuff... but what if he just gets bored? and eternity becomes boring no matter what. Can anyone kill God if they want to and God lets them?

Ooh, Ooh, Can I have the honors?

I do agree with you the eternal life equates with eternal boredom. It's the only thing that can really explain why God, if He exists, is either completely indifferent, or downright malevolent.

What a relief. Since many seem to believe that I have an immortal and eternal soul that can exist without my mortal coil, I can do the exact same thing; It can't be wrong since God did it as well! After all, as winstonjen pointed out, he commited passive suicide.

I'm off to buy every single pill in the local pharmacy. Wonder how the reddish/green ones taste?

We would know because, assuming the Judeo-Christian God exists, without God to balance the evil in the universe - our life on Earth would be just like if we were in the Lake of Fire. There would be no good in the world, and our souls couldn't survive. You would definately know if He did.

Boredom doesn't exist to God. You are attempting to use a finite, mortal mind to state how God would feel. God doesn't get bored, He has existed for all eternity. He needs nothing outside of himself, because He is self-sufficient. Most atheists here seem to have the rational understanding of a hypothetical god as though he were a lego. God does not fit into your little box. How many times do I need to say this until it sinks in? Stop trying to compare God to yourself - IT DOESN'T WORK!
