Actually, giraffes started out as tree-dwelling creatures that would graze on grass. They needed the long necks to reach the grass from where they perched up in the branches. It was the gravity acting on their heads that made their necks long.
It's only an irony of evolution that now they stand on the ground and eat the leaves off of the trees in which they used to dwell. Go figure. |
