Theism without belief in life after death.
Hi!
I'm new to these boards (But I lurked around for a while). I really enjoy reading some of the content here. Most of the discussions seem very civil even when viewpoints clash. I like that! I was wondering if some of you knew about a belief system that includes the existence of a deity/creator but no life after death, reincarnation, eternal life... I'll look around on the boards for it, but I'd be thankful if someone could point me to threads or sites about that topic. I apologise in advance if that topic is old news here and has already been discussed over and over. Bye! Soyin |

Both the ancient Hebrews and the Greek Pagans had no significant afterlife beliefs. The concept of resurrection in Judaism was a later addition, and the Greek Pagans ended up in an underworld where nothing significant happened.

Hi Soyin. Do you think such a belief system would suit you? If so, why are you looking around for it? Don't you have it already? Just take the time and effort to flesh it out so to speak. How would it help you in life. What would it teach you? What do you call it? How do you express it? Do you want this to be easy. Are you ready to invest your life in it. Are you willing to let someone else make these decisions for you or can you do it on your own. If you can do it yourself why haven't you. Would it mean more if it were someone elses' idea. If so then what does it matter what you believe?
I'll get out of the way now because the others will be here soon. Good luck. JT |

Hi, Soyin. Welcome to II.
While this is an interesting and worthwhile question, it's better suited for General Religious Discussions. Or perhaps Non-Abrahamic Religions, but I'll let GRD mods make that call. d |

Deists believe that the universe was created by a deity. I think that their opinions on afterlife etc. vary a lot. |

I think that many Deists may have a similar belief system to what you describe. The main idea is that there is a God/Creator, but he is not at all a "personal" God. He created the universe, and that is the sum total of his interaction with it.
