Post For Haran: New World Translators' Incompetence

Haran wanted to know if anyone could find out anything about the translators of the JW Bible swearing under oath that they knew no Greek or Hebrew) (guess the holy spirit guided them).

Halfway down there is a long paragraph and cites at the bottom:
http://www.freeminds.org/doctrine/nwt.htm

The case:
17. "Pursuers Proof of Douglas Walsh vs The Right Honourable James Latham, M.P., P.C., Scottish Court of Sessions, November, 1954, p.92" as quoted in Cetnar, 64

Same info, but more complete:

Michael, thanks for taking the time to look that stuff up. I thought that I remembered that court case from something that I had read but wasn't completely sure.

Though I doubt you care much for my Christianity, I believe that we could both probably agree that the beliefs of the Jehovah's witnesses are potentially dangerous both to themselves and their society (e.g. Jehovah's Witnesses and forbids their participation in such common activities as taking blood transfusions, celebrating birthdays or holidays - including Christmas, Easter, and Mother's Day -, voting, flag saluting, and military service).

P.S. - The Institute for Religious Research (IRR) website has some insteresting information on JWs. I believe it is from a Christian perspective.

Thanks,
Haran

I believed that in the last couple of years somebody had a revelation and transfusions are now ok for JWs. But I was wrong...

Here's a page on the blood policy by a group that is claiming to be against it. Apparently the policy is more hypocritical and stupid than I ever imagined. According to that page, JWs can use all blood components, but not whole blood, and can also use blood products made from cow's blood.

I don't think it is dangerous to avoid celebrating birthdays, just silly. And avoidance of military service is not particularly threatening either. We have plenty of willing young people. What bothers me about JWs is their right-wing politics. I don't mind if people are Christian, so long as they don't force people to adopt their ways.
