I've heard from several girls that guys who play guitar are sexy. Why is that? From an evolutionary perspective, what about a man playing a musical instrument would make him a desirable mate? Does playing an instrument indicate some intelligence? Not really, there are plenty of dumb, yet talented musicians. Playing an instrument doesn't reveal anything physically about the person either. So why would it make a man attractive????

I'm thinking that men and instruments tap into women's adolescent fantasies about men. Probably their first sexual desires were centered on famous people like musicians.

But seriously, I don't know why. Music is something that can move people, different types for different people. In my case, DDR, and other similar music game music :P

Why does it make a man attractive though ? I can't answer that, since I haven't scored :P

For what it's worth, I (a guy) generally find women more attractive if they have musical skills. I can't say why. It probably helps that I am a musician myself, but that's not really an answer.

What I had heard is that having the mental resources free to acquire musical ability is some kind of signal that the male has the ability to compete and still have resources left over. Kind of like peacock's tails: they don't do anything, but the more elaborate the tail, the sexier the peacock. Then there's the obvious phallic imagery of a guitar neck.

Actually, Keith makes GD's point well. When he was at his most run down his playing sucked. Now that he's healthy he doesn't have to leave the heavy lifting to Ronnie all the time.

Hmmm...

Musicians are sexy because of the power of music. I don't find all musicians sexy, mostly the ones that play the kind of music I like.

I always thought it was because a musician is generally very good with his/her hands. It does demonstrate a certain manual dexterity which is always good.
