Dembski question: what is the "Nancy Hirshberg memorial prize?"
In Dembski's C.V. he lists two prizes: one is the Templeton Foundation Book Prize and the other is the "Nancy Hirshberg memorial memorial prize" for "best undergraduate paper in psychology."
The Templeton Prizeis "for progress for research or discoveries about spiritual realities." (It is interesting that he notes the amount -- $100,000....) However, I can find no reference at the University of Chicago web site to a "Nancy Hirshberg" prize (although I can find other undergraduate prizes), nor does google bring up any other claimants other than Dembski. Does anybody know more about this prize, and what the title of the paper would have been? Dembski's C.V. HW |

It's misspelled and misstated in the CV. It should be the "Nancy Hirschberg Memorial Award."

Ah, I see it. Thanks! So it is kind of a "best paper in class" award for 300- level psychology classes.

Is it just me, or is it rather weird and pathetic for a guy with two Ph.D.'s to list a doggie-treat for a good undergrad paper (not even in his field) on his C.V.? Did he think nobody would look it up and see what it was? Did he spell "Hirschberg" incorrectly on purpose to foil the curious? Intelligent design? Or just unintelligent dyslexia?
Hey, maybe I should add my 8th grade spelling bee championship to my resume. |

I suspect his pathetic undergrad best in class prize is more genuine and authoritative than both of his "phd's" put together.
