Cosmological red shifts really are cosmological -- useful info against the YECs
I thought I posted this, but I can't find it now. Take two...
Creationists sometimes use the ideas of Arp and other unorthodox astronomers to advance their claims against mainstream astronomy. The Bad Astronomy Board has a very useful thread that shows that "cosmological redshifts" really are cosmological -- that quasars really VERY distant. Interesting. I read something by some creationist idiot denying that redshift indicated that the universe was expanding or that it was old.

Thanks for the information. I just resently saw a creato use the Arp argument and I drew a blank. It won't happen again.

The Bible OKJV.
The 93rd psalm verse one says: quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Lord reighneth, he is clothed with majesty; the Lord is clothed with strength, where-with he hath girded himself: the world is also established, that it cannot be moved. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- end quote. This verse places the Earth as an immovable object. According to this verse, the Universe must revolve around the Earth. Yet that is clearly not the case. Yet there are those misguided souls who insist on a literal interpretation of the Bible. :banghead: Go figure... Chimp |

Ah, but if you take it REALLY literally, it doesn't mean that at all, you see. Check out post 71 here. This guy (YEC) is a fairly well-known creationist; he pops up on different boards and has done for years.
