Angry My old elementary school used for church services!

I recently became aware of a sign across from my old elementary school (still a public elementary school) that says that the such-and-such Presbyterian Church's Sunday evening services are being held there.

This seems a pretty clear violation of the First and Fourteenth amendments...right? I'd like to take action against this.

Actually, I think that is legal. Key things to check: After hours only, No coersion (<-sp) of students to attend, Paying for the use of facilities. There may be more to check. Annoying though

I think one more thing to check is whether the schools allow other groups to rent the facilities also.

If their policy is to deny other groups the use of the facilities, they can't let churches either.

So basically as long as the rules apply equally to church groups and non-church groups, it is probably legal.

The same thing happened here and it bothered me too.

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as they don't discriminate against other religious organizations as well as secular or atheistic ones.

However, If that isn't the case then you should take action.

Just to echo the other comments, it is not illegal as long as the school does not discriminate based on content. IOW, test them out. Inquire about holding a Freethought meeting at the school on Saturday Afternoon or Sunday Afternoon and if they allow it, then they're OK. But if not . . . File suit immediately!!!
