Thumbs down Constitutional Amendment to protect Pledge officially underway

<a href="http://news.christiansunite.com/agape1.shtml" target="_blank">Constitutional Amendment to protect Pledge officially underway</a>

Quote:
How fortunate we are," Pickering said, "to stand together as we begin a national campaign to protect and promote the Pledge to the Flag and our national motto -- 'In God We Trust' -- and to protect it by a Constitutional amendment."

Pat Trueman, a spokesperson for the American Family Association in the nation's capitol, spoke of the need for such an amendment. He said AFA knows that there are millions of Americans throughout this country who want to protect the religious heritage of this country and that "want God -- Almighty God -- to still reign sovereign over our land and to protect us and we want to honor Him."
These people suck.

His insight astounds me. What does god have to do with patriotism and duty? Other than all 3 subjects requiring indoctrination?

I intend to write a few letters. Especially to ole Chippy Pooh.

I wish these people would understand that our goal should be to become less like Iran, not more like Iran. Idiots.

So... what they're saying is that the current Constitution does not protect these obvious endorsements of religion. Which is what the judges on the appeals panel ruled. So why did they go apesh*t over the ruling, since they essentially agree?

Shhhhhhhhhboy. "Animal psychics" with their own shows on Animal Planet, and now this....... I nearly had an episode of projectile vomiting.

More to the point, the ignorant giant of fundamantalism, while not alseep for some time now, is not only fully awake but agitated and ready to trample nontheist villagers, and wipe its ass with the Constitution. And with the support of the 2 factions of the Corporate Xian Party, and the bulk of the underinformed populace. Bleeeeeeck!

[fundy nutburger legal apologist] "Of course the Constitution protects the 'under God' version of the Pledge and our current national motto. Unfortunately, as the Ninth District's decision proves conclusively, there will always be out-of-touch federal judges who refuse to recognize this basic truth. We need the amendment not because the judges were right (they clearly weren't) but to keep them and other rogue judges in line." [/fundy nutburger legal apologist]

Something is awry here. <a href="http://issues2002.org/House/Van_Hilleary_Education.htm" target="_blank">H.J. Res 108</a> is a school prayer amendment.

Are these people so gullible that they're being asked to sign a petition in support of a Constitutional amendment whose text is as yet unavailable? Rhetorical question ...

What makes "In God We Trust" our national motto? I didn't know we even had a national motto.

Congress designated "In God we trust" the national motto in 1956. It's codified in the United States Code at <a href="http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/36/302.html" target="_blank">36 U.S.C. sec. 302</a>.

SM,
Isn't it also true that the original official motto was E Pluribus Unum, which was "retired" by those that replaced it with "In God We Trust"? Another pivotal point in the 20th century campaign by the xian fundamentalist historical revisionists.
